Sony announces new categories and grant recipients in its World Photography Awards

Sony’s World Photography Awards now include an environmental category, as well as opportunities for young photographers and new grant recipients

Sony’s 2020 World Photography Awards mark the introduction of a new environment category to its professional competition. The competition seeks entries from artists working within the fields of fine art photography and photojournalism, with submitted photographs addressing environmental concerns to promote discussion and change.

Winning photographers will be given a global platform upon which to showcase their work. Last year’s winner, Federico Borella said: “Winning the 2019 Photographer of the Year title is one of the most important things for my career and my life.”

Along with the new category, Sony has announced new opportunities for young, emerging photographers. The new Youth competition offers photographers aged between 12 and 19 the opportunity to submit three images per month between June and December. The monthly competitions have unique themes, and one winner and one shortlisted photographer will be chosen for each of the seven months.
