Canon sponsors new sustainability award

The new award recognises young people’s visual documentation of social and environmental issues, and offers a host of prizes to reward winners.

Canon is set to sponsor the Global Good Awards’ first ever category highlighting the achievements of generation Z in the field of sustainability. The company’s involvement follows the success of a number of its other youth-based social campaigns, including the Canon Young People Programme (YPP).

The new Canon Young Champion of the Year Award will be separated into two classes – under 16s and under 21s. Entrants are required to submit up to 1000 supporting words and up to six images to tell their story, which should be based on one (or more) of the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN.

“Whether it is mental health, cyberbullying, wellbeing, environmental sustainability, education, charity activism, animal welfare, diversity and inclusion or any subject linked to the 17 SDGs, we want to hear how you are making people aware of the issue you are championing,” says Karen Sutton, CEO of the Global Good Awards.

All finalists will receive two free tickets to the ceremony on 16 June 2020 in London, a bag of eco-friendly goodies and a framed certificate. Winners will receive a Canon G7 X Mark III camera worth £700, while runners up will receive a Canon Zoemini C camera worth £150.

Entries for the Global Good Awards are free, and open on 2 December.
