New 35mm f/1.8 from Samyang

Posted on Sep 23, 2020

Samyang adds to its Tiny Series with a new autofocus all-rounder.

Samyang’s new addition, designed for full-frame Sony E-mount bodies, is great for photographers of all varieties. The fast aperture lens is nicely compact – weighing 210g at 63.5mm in length – and is weather resistant, making it well-suited for use in virtually any environment.

Samyang assures corner-to-corner sharpness with the 35mm, even at wider apertures, with two aspherical elements to correct aberration. Smooth bokeh is also achievable thanks to nine circular blades.

A degree of customisation is possible with a control switch, which allows users to select various functions such as aperture control. More functions will be added in the future through firmware updates, offering even more potential.

When it comes to autofocus, performance is fast and accurate thanks to a newly researched and developed linear stepping motor. In addition to quiet focusing, strong tracking capabilities make the new lens an option for stills and video shooters alike.

The lens is due to become available in early October, with a suggested retail price of £359.99.
