Sigma announces trio of lenses

Posted on Dec 7, 2020

The Sigma I Series introduces three new lenses aimed at full-frame mirrorless users, with the 24mm f/3.5 DG DN Contemporary (£479), the 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary (£549), and the 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary (£649) all adding to the brand’s impressive line-up of optics. Featuring ‘Premium Compact Primes’, the series’ form factor has been kept to a minimum, while maintaining strong performance.

The 24mm measures 48.8mm in length and weighs 225g. It features a construction of ten elements in eight groups with one SLD element and three aspherical elements, designed to minimise flare and ghosting. Other plus points include high-speed autofocus capabilities, thanks to a stepping motor, minimum focusing of 10.8cm with a 1:2 magnification ratio, a dust- and splash-proof structure and an aperture ring.

The 35mm offers a slightly longer focal length with many of the same promising features. It’s a bit longer and heavier than its wider sibling, but only up to 65.4mm in length and 325g in weight. Also like its siblings, it features a focus mode switch and magnetic lens cap. Even at a faster aperture of f/2, Sigma promises that images are sharp from edge to edge, courtesy, in part, of its ten elements in nine groups, with one SLD element and three aspherical elements.

Unsurprisingly, the 65mm follows suit with these features, but in a focal length approaching short telephoto. Longer and heavier still at 74.7mm and 405g, the 65mm is still compact for a lens of this length and fast aperture. Users can expect quality from 12 elements in nine groups with one SLD element and two aspherical elements, alongside inner focusing to eliminate breathing and compatibility with lens-based optical correction – yet more features all three offerings share.

All three Sigma I Series lenses will be offered in L-Mount and Sony E-mount.
