Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM arrives

Posted on Jan 15, 2021

Sony is seeking to introduce a new standard of lens with the popular G Master series and, now, it’s added another string to its bow in the form of a fast 35mm. The new addition serves as a quality all-rounder for Sony users.

An optical construction that includes two extreme aspherical lenses assures high-quality images and aids with smooth bokeh, along with the lens’ fast speeds. Size isn’t much of a compromise for such a wide-aperture lens, at 96mm in length and a weight of 524g.

Autofocus comes by way of two Sony XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors and is assured to be silent, lending itself well to video shooters and those capturing stills on the street or in nature. Sony also reports reliable tracking and AF functionality, even at high frame rates.

When it comes to handling, there’s a focus hold button that can adopt other functions and focus mode switch, as well as an aperture ring that can be de-clicked. The 35mm can also be used in less-than-ideal conditions, thanks to dust- and moisture-resistance and a fluorine-coated front element.

The Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM is available from the end of January and currently holds an estimated retail price of £1500.
