Four L-Mount lenses from Laowa

Posted on Feb 22, 2021

Venus Optics, the manufacturer behind Laowa lenses, has announced new possibilities for L-Mount bodies. The announcement of new L-Mount options covers four of the brand’s more specialised lenses.

The Laowa 4mm f/2.8 fisheye is first, offering an extremely wide 210° angle of view and opening up all kinds of weird and wonderful potential to more experimental photographers. The second wide-angle is the Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D. Unlike the fisheye, this lens is carefully designed to minimise distortion to a great degree, with two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to correct aberration and other negative effects.

On the macro front, an L-Mount version of the Laowa 24mm f/14 2X Macro Probe lens is now available. As one of very few consumer-grade probes, it offers 2:1 macro and a greater depth of field than is typical in a macro lens, thanks to its wide-angle focal length. The front barrel is also waterproof and an LED ring light is located at the lens’s tip.

The final update is for the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro. Optimised to work at the more extreme macro end, the lens allows for supremely close-up capture. Fairly reasonably priced, it’s an interesting option for enthusiast and professional macro photographers alike.

All four new offerings begin shipping in early March.
