Nikon Z video updates land
Posted on Feb 24, 2021
Firmware v.1.10 offers a series of exciting Nikon Z video updates for users of the system. The update enhances the performance of eye-detection AF on the Z 7II and Z 6II, while enabling additional recording formats and video workflows when shooting with the Z 6II.
Namely, 4K 60p recording has been added to the firmware, as well as Raw video output to Blackmagic external recorders. These improvements double the possible frame rate at UHD resolution and provide an alternate option to ProRes Raw. Users will also find that there are notably better autofocus capabilities, primarily in auto-area AF and wide-area AF.
Targeting filmmakers and solidifying the camera’s position as an extremely strong stills/video hybrid even further, the brand has also released a Z 6II Essential Movie kit to accompany the Nikon Z video updates. It contains a number of key accessories. Namely, the Z 6II is joined by an Atomos Ninja V monitor/recorder, a Smallrig quick-release camera cage, the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter and spare batteries.
The kit offers a better equipped filmmaking set-up than that of the Z 6II body alone. Priced at £2909 in its entirety, it’s available to purchase now.
