Nikon reveals two new NIKKOR Z lenses

Posted on Oct 29, 2021

The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S and NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S have just been unveiled

Building on yesterday’s exciting news of the Nikon Z 9 mirrorless camera is the announcement that Nikon is developing the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, a super-telephoto prime lens for full-frame (Nikon FX-format) mirrorless cameras.

This will be the first NIKKOR Z super-telephoto prime lens. It will form part of the S-Line of NIKKOR Z lenses, which offer optimum optical performance for mirrorless cameras. The lens promises to deliver high-resolution images, with the ability to create beautiful bokeh effects in the background. The lens incorporates a 1.4x teleconverter and the best anti-reflection coating ever seen in a NIKKOR lens. It will be easy to use and will support video recording.

Aimed at professional photographers, this powerful super-telephoto lens claims to take optical performance to a whole new level whilst meeting users’ needs. It is not yet known when it will be released, or how much it will cost.

Other lens news from Nikon is the announcement of the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S. Designed for use in practically any scenario, the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S offers advanced optics and a broad zoom range – all in a compact, lightweight body. It will enable photographers to switch between different photography genres – from portraits to landscapes – without the need to change lenses.

The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S has a constant aperture of f/4 that provides users with great versatility and agility across the wide to mid-telephoto range offered by the lens. It has a short minimum focusing distance and 0.39 maximum reproduction ratio. It has a multi-focusing system which uses two AF drive units to deliver fast and accurate autofocusing. It also delivers excellent video performance, with minimal focus breathing for smooth, consistent framing and refocusing during recording.

The lens features customisable controls, allowing users to assign various functions according to their own preferences. An ARNEO Coat and Nano Crystal Coat suppress ghosting and flare, whilst Nikon’s Fluorine coating repels dirt and helps to protect the lens from the elements.

The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S will go on sale in Winter 2021, retailing at £1099.
