Introducing the Lumix GH6

Offering powerful video capability and a whole host of professional-standard features, the latest Lumix flagship model is ready to break the boundaries of mirrorless cameras
Renowned for its performance, mobility and rugged design, the GH series is a long-term favourite of filmmakers and creatives. Cameras in the Lumix GH series offer a hybrid photo/video concept with outstanding video recording performance and professional-level features. The latest member of the family, the GH6, promises to continue this heritage, with 5.7K 30p internal video recording available in ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 422 using a CFexpress Type B card – a first for the Lumix series – which enables non-linear editing without transcoding.
The Lumix GH6 offers higher resolution and higher bit rates than ever before, with 5.7K 4:2:0 10-bit 60p/50p and 5.8K 30p/25p/24p 4:2:0 10-bit anamorphic 4:3 modes recorded utilising the full area of the sensor for stunning image quality that meets the needs for film, TV and all types of video production. The camera achieves 4:2:2 10-bit Cinema 4K 60p internal recording plus simultaneous output in 4:2:2 10-bit Cinema 4K 660p over HDMI.
The GH6 boasts unrivalled image stabilisation, thanks to a new super high-precision 5-axis gyro sensor used with a new algorithm to achieve a powerful 7.5 stops of Body I.S and Dual I.S.2. This helps to eliminate hand-shake and compensates for camera movement to produce smooth, stable camera footage. It also means that users can shoot 100-megapixel high-resolution images without a tripod when using the camera’s High Resolution mode.
The GH6 offers an impressive dynamic range of 12+ stops for pre-installed V-Log recording, which expands to 13+ stops when using its Dynamic Range Boost mode. This allows clear, smooth HDR video with rich gradation to be achieved by combining a highly saturated image with a low noise image for each pixel of the shot.
For the first time in the Lumix G Series Micro Four Thirds camera line-up, the Lumix GH6 contains a V-Log/V-Gamut, delivering a high dynamic range with broad colours. All colour information is retained, allowing greater flexibility in the post-production process and ensuring accurate colour reproduction.
The audio recording performance has been improved, with the ability to achieve 4ch 48kHz or 96kHz 24-bit recording using an XLR microphone, giving greater flexibility when shooting outdoors or in environments where multiple audio sources are present.
This powerful camera also offers a host of practical features for easier workflow, including video assist functions such as Waveform Monitor, Zebra Pattern, Luminance Spot Meter, Frame Marker, and more. You can also capture 4K 60p timelapse videos.
Other key features include the GH6’s next-generation engine and sensor technology. The camera incorporates Panasonic’s new 25.2-megapixel Live MOS Sensor without LPF (Low-pass Filter), delivering high-resolution, high-speed signal readout that reduces rolling shutter and achieve a wide dynamic range. The new Venus Engine has been upgraded to deliver twice the processing power, enabling high-speed processing of the new sensor’s higher pixel counts and higher-resolution, higher-bit-rate video.
The GH6 also boasts intuitive operability, with a 3.0-inch tilt and free-angle touch-control monitor, giving great flexibility and the option to rotate freely – even when connected to the camera with a HDMI camera.
The GH6 becomes available from March, retailing at £1,999.99 (body only) or £2,199.99 for a kit including a 12-60mm lens.
