Canon bonanza ft. EOS R6 Mark II

Posted on Nov 2, 2022

A new EOS R6 Mark II, an impressive RF telephoto lens and a high-speed flash? What more could you want? Perfect for a range of video and photo creators

EOS R6 Mark II

Biggest news first: the EOS R6 Mark II graces shelves across the world as part of a new-product bonanza from Canon. Billed as the fastest EOS R System mirrorless yet, we expect great things. Boasting everything from remarkable AF updates, super-fast shutter speed, and an updated sensor, the camera is ideal for hybrid creators.

The R6 Mark II pushes speed and reliability to new heights. It uses the same DIGIC X processor as previous iterations, but its performance has been boosted. Breaking speed records for continuous shooting (up to 40fps, with 20fps and 5fps options), fleeting moments no longer pass unrecorded. The EOS R6 Mark II is the only camera in its class that shoots 4K 60p UHD with simultaneous Dual Pixel CMOS AF II focusing, so filmmakers can demand higher performance. Supported by an impressive 24.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, it’s the speediest full-frame mirrorless to date.

Tracking moving subjects has never been easier thanks to improved and sophisticated deep learning. It also includes similar advanced eye-tracking technology to other models on the market. Up to 8 stops of image stabilisation delivers shake-free results, while focusing in low-light levels (to -6.5EV) and up to ISO 102,400, means you can capture the ambience without sacrificing quality.

Longer recording times, webcam functionality, extended battery life and OVF assist improve the shooting experience, while seamless navigation, user-friendly ergonomics and a weather resistant build help overall handling.

The EOS R6 Mark II body will be available from the end of November for £2,779.99 body only or £3,999.99 with the RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM lens.

RF 135mm F1.8L IS USM

Second on the release radar – the RF 135mm F1.8L IS USM telephoto – is ideal for shooting portraits thanks to its f/1.8 9-blade maximum aperture and built-in optical image stabiliser. This, in combination with its 135mm focal length, creates captivating bokeh and a relaxed shooting environment by extending the distance between subject and photographer. Super-sharp across the entire frame, the lens also features two customisable function buttons to improve handling.

SPEEDLITE EL-5

Finally, the SPEEDLITE EL-5 flash, engineered with the same intuitive design as the EL-1, makes the perfect accessory for pro photographers. Featuring a Guide Number of 60 and a fast flash recycle time, it’s never been easier to illuminate action-packed events. The rechargeable Li-ion Battery Pack LP-EL enables a long continuous flash count at up to 85 flashes at full power.

The RF 135mm F1.8L IS USM will be available from December for £2449.99 and the Speedlite EL-5 will arrive next February for £499.99.
