Sony Announces FE 16-25mm F2.8 G Wide-Angle Zoom Lens

Sony has expanded its lineup of full-frame Alpha E-mount lenses with the introduction of the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G wide-angle zoom
Revealed on April 16th, the lens will pique the interest of photographers and videographers with its wide-angle versatility, consistent aperture performance, and portability. Learn more about the standout features below.
Design and Portability
Despite its constant F2.8 aperture throughout the 16mm to 25mm zoom range, the lens cuts a compact form. When combined with a very bearable weight of 409 grams, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G is sure to appeal to landscape, architecture, and astro photographers.
Optical Performance
Optically, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G boasts three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and four aspherical lenses, including one ED aspherical lens, along with optimized spherical aberration control, so high quality ahould be expected. Additionally the 11-blade circular aperture promises pleasing bokeh effects.
Autofocus and Video
Autofocus efficiency is driven by two linear motors, which are designed to increase speed and precision while reducing noise. According to Sony, this means the lens supports smooth tracking at the 20fps continuous shooting speed and 240p video frame rate achievable with the A9 III.
Furthermore, the inclusion of linear response MF and minimized focus breathing will please videographers looking for smooth focus transitions and consistent framing.
Build Quality and Usability
External features include a focus hold button, an adjustable aperture ring, and a switch to toggle the aperture click. The lens is also constructed to be dust and moisture-resistant, featuring a fluorine coating on the front element to repel contaminants.
