Tamron introduces 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD for Nikon Z Mount
Posted on Aug 30, 2024
Tamron has announced the release of the 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD, a new telephoto zoom lens for Nikon Z mount full-frame mirrorless cameras
This lens features an 8x zoom range, starting at 50mm and extending to 400mm, designed to offer a broad focal length range within a compact and lightweight form factor.
The 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 VC stands out for its zoom range, which begins at 50mm, a wider focal length compared to the standard 100-400mm lenses typically seen in this category. The lens weighs 1,180g and measures 185.8mm in length, making it relatively portable for a lens covering this range.
The optical design of the lens includes various specialised elements aimed at reducing chromatic aberrations and maintaining image quality throughout the zoom range. The autofocus system is driven by Tamron’s VXD linear motor, which is intended to provide precise and responsive focusing, with a particular focus on tracking moving subjects.
The lens also features Tamron’s image stabilisation technology, which is designed to combat camera shake, particularly at longer focal lengths.
Another notable aspect of the 50-400mm lens is its close focusing capability, allowing for a minimum object distance of 0.25m at 50mm. This enables users to achieve a 1:2 magnification ratio at the wider end of the zoom range, offering opportunities for half-macro photography.
The lens includes additional features such as moisture-resistant construction, a fluorine coating on the front element, and compatibility with Tamron’s Lens Utility software, which provides options for customising lens functions and updating firmware.
The Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD for Nikon Z mount is scheduled for release by the end of September 2024, with a recommended retail price of £1,249.00 in the UK and €1479.00 in Ireland.
