Fujifilm announces X-M5 camera for content creators
Posted on Oct 14, 2024
Fujifilm has announced the release of the X-M5, the latest model in its X Series of mirrorless cameras
The X-M5 is a camera that has content creators in its sights, with a clear focus on video recording.
Weighing approximately 355g, it is the lightest camera in the X Series, and, according to Fujifilm, is designed to offer portability without sacrificing image quality.
X-M5 features and performance
The camera features the 26.1MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, powered by the X-Processor 5, a combination Fujifilm says promises efficient performance and reduced power consumption.
The camera also includes Fujifilm’s latest AI-driven autofocus system that detects a variety of subjects, such as animals, vehicles and drones, while also offering improved tracking and focus accuracy.
For video recording, the X-M5 offers 6.2K/30P footage with 4:2:2 10-bit colour, recorded directly to an SD card. Additional video features include 4K/60P and Full HD 240P slow-motion recording options.
The camera includes digital image stabilisation and three built-in microphones, allowing users to adjust audio settings based on the recording environment. Users can choose from four directions: surround, front, back, or front and back.
It’s clear Fujifilm are targeting the burgeoning content creator market with a new 9:16 Short Movie Mode that has been introduced for shooting vertical videos, a format popular on social media platforms.
X-M5 design and handling
In terms of design, the X-M5 retains the usual pretty aesthetic that X Series is known for, with physical dials for quick access to shooting settings.
This includes the new Film Simulation dial that was first seen on the X-T50, which allows instant access to Fujfilm’s unique filters that emulate old analogue film stocks.
One thing to note here is that there is no EVF, just a rear LCD, but that’s an omission that we doubt will trouble the camera’s target market.

X-M5 price and availability
The X-M5 is available in black and silver with a body-only price of £799, or £899 when bundled in a kit with the XC15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Visit the Fujifilm website for more information.
