Tamron introduces 90mm F/2.8 Di III Macro lens for mirrorless
Posted on Sep 28, 2024
Tamron has announced the release of its latest lens, the Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III Macro VXD full-frame mirrorless cameras
Available for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts, this new lens builds on Tamron’s 45-year history of producing macro lenses, continuing a lineage that began with the SP 90mm F/2.5 in 1979.
Features of the Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III MACRO
The lens is constructed of 15 elements in 12 groups, incorporating four Low Dispersion (LD) elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. Tamron has also included its BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating to help minimise ghosting and flare.
A new addition is a 12-blade circular aperture, which is designed to produce smooth, circular bokeh at wider apertures and 12-ray starburst effects when the lens is stopped down.
This feature is particularly relevant for photographers focusing on macro and portrait work, where background blur and light effects play a key role.
Design and build
Measuring 126.5mm in length and weighing 630g, the lens is relatively compact for its class, potentially offering greater portability for users.
A new lens hood design includes a sliding window that allows easier access to filters, useful for photographers who frequently use polarising or neutral density filters.
The lens also features high-speed autofocus, moisture-resistant construction, and is equipped with Tamron’s proprietary Lens Utility software for customising lens functions.
The Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III Macro VXD will be available at the end of October 2024, at a price of £599. Visit the Tamron website for more information.
