ATOMOS & OM-1 team up

Posted on Jun 9, 2022

ATOMOS blazes a trail as NINJA V & V+ support Apple ProRes RAW recording, with DCI 4K at up to 60fps.

A pioneer in the digital video space, ATOMOS has announced its NINJA V and NINJA V+ are to work in conjunction with Apple ProRes RAW. This is over HDMI for the new OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mirco Four Thirds camera from OM Digital Solutions.

The OM System OM-1 is a clear statement on intent for the recently formed OM Digital Solutions Corporation. This new camera fuses a distillation of 85 years of Olympus imaging technology experience and ability, with innovative technology from OM SYSTEM. Equipped with a distinctive, robust, and lightweight magnesium alloy enclosure, the OM-1 surpasses conventional expectations of MFT cameras. A marked improvement in core performance is promised through autofocus and sequential shooting performance enhancements.

With the NINJA V and NINJA V+ you can get the most accurate and immensely detailed preview of your images from the OM-1 with bright HDR display. Take back control and choose between HLG and PQ (HDR10) standards to suit your individual needs. The 5-inch touchscreen give you access to a plethora of software tools including waveforms, false colour, check focus, framing guides, LUTs and image magnification. With the NINJA V/V+ filmmakers can be confident in their technical and creative decisions during production to get the perfect HDR or SDR shot.

Going travelling? Take the OM-1 and the NINJA V/V+ combination anywhere. Their compact form-factors mean they can stand up to different rigs and types of production. Supremely mobile, the combined solution is equally at home when used as part of a handheld setup – positioned in a confined space, or mounted on a gimbal. The option to harness ProRes RAQ in a MFT camera makes the format even more accessible and introduces a range of creative possibilities for filmmakers.

ATOMOS and OM SYSTEM are committed to supporting the full capabilities of ProRes RAW. In practical terms this means offering filmmakers the maximum degree of flexibility when it comes to working with the codec in post-production. Accordingly, ProRes RAW clips recorded from the OM-1 will support White Balance and ISO adjustment sliders in Apple Final Cut Pro.Support for ProRes RAW on the OM-1 requires that the camera firmware be updated to v1.1. The ATOMOS 10.76 is available for download from my.atomos.com.

“The OM SYSTEM OM-1 is a compelling MFT camera and a great addition to an already amazing line-up from our partners at OM Digital Solutions Corporation. The ability to provide RAW out over HDMI to the ATOMOS NINJA V/V+ means that even more filmmakers can embrace the new creative opportunities presented by ProRes RAW”, explains Trevor Elbourne, ATOMOS CEO.

So, is ProRes RAW the new standard? Adding to the snowballing success of the ProRes RAW ecosystem, ATOMOS’ momentum has been amassing. There have been over 40 cameras supporting the ATOMOS and ProRes RAW combination, cementing its position as the industry standard for RAW video capture. ProRes RAW are demonstrating it is firmly investing in the future of video recording, through ensuring support across multiple camera models and manufacturers. ProRes RAW combines the visual and workflow benefits of RAW video with the incredible real-time performance of ProRes. This format gives filmmakers enormous latitude when adjusting the look of their images and extending brightness and shadow detail, making it ideal for HDR work processes.

Both ProRes RAW, and the higher bandwidth, less compressed ProRes RAW HQ are supported. Manageable file sizes speed up and simplify file transfer, media management, and archiving. ProRes RAW is fully supported in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer along with a collection of other apps including ASSIMILATE SCRATCH, Colorfront, FilmLight Baselight and Grass Valley Edius.
