Canon reveals EOS R5 specs

Posted on Mar 13, 2020

Canon has shut down speculation that EOS R5 specs are impossible and revealed select new details.

Following Canon’s recent announcement of the EOS R5, many photographers voiced opinions that certain details wouldn’t be achievable. Now, Canon has responded with new details of camera specs that are sure to excite photographers and videographers alike.

Certainly, the most significant announcement detail was that of the R5’s 8K video capabilities. Now, Canon has revealed the camera will be able to record 8K video internally up to 30p using the full width of the sensor. Additionally, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus will be supported in all 8K recording modes.

Other confirmed specs include advanced animal AF, which recognises not only the eyes but the bodies of cats, dogs and birds, 12fps mechanical shutter and 20fps electronic shutter shooting, a newly developed in-camera stabilisation system, and dual card slots.

Richard Shepherd, pro product marketing senior manager, said: “As an industry leader, we are challenging the market with this launch and showing what’s possible with our technology. The EOS R5 and the RF lens system is proof of our commitment to redefine mirrorless, and shows Canon’s unparalleled strength in creating products with true purpose.”
