A Perfect Pair from Tamron

Posted on Oct 6, 2021

Tamron announced the development of two fast-aperture zooms for Sony E-mount cameras a few months back. Now they’re ready for market and due in the shops from the end of October

Tamron welcomes two zooms to its extensive family of lenses, both for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 is a fast-aperture standard zoom lens that builds on the success of its predecessor, the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD. The latest lens delivers enhanced imaging performance, higher resolution image and faster autofocus speeds – all packaged in the same compact bodyform as the previous model. With a minimum focus of 18cm at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7, the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 has close-up shooting potential too and accepts 67mm filters.

The 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD is a great choice for travel photographers who prefer to keep weight down, and it’s a world’s first too with its fast aperture for this focal length range. This range makes it perfect for shooting dramatic views, wide open landscapes and buildings and plus there’s the benefit of 33cm minimum focus at the wide end.

Other key benefits of this lens include moisture resistant build, a protective fluorine front coat, 82mm filter thread and a locking lens hood.

Autofocus in both lenses is delivered with impressive precision and quietness thanks to the lens’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear focus mechanism. The lenses are also compatible with camera specific AF features including Hybrid AF and Eye AF.

Both lenses can be operated with the latest Tamron Lens Utility software from a computer by connecting the lens via the Tamron Connection Cable (bought separately). This allows users to update firmware and customise the lens functions according to the specific demands of their shoot, be it still photography or videography. The Focus Preset feature allows users to shift the focus between two pre-set points or simply focus onto a single recorded point with just the press of a button. AF/MF can be set using the Focus Set Button, while the Switch Focus Ring Function allows users to switch from focus adjustment to aperture adjustment mid shoot with ease. Customised features can be assigned from the camera body so that you can quickly access the settings you need for your shoot.

The 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 is priced at £849.99 and the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 at £1599.99 with both scheduled to go on sale after 28 October.
