Joby announces tiny Beamo LED

Posted on Mar 23, 2020

The new Beamo light is compact, versatile and surprisingly powerful.

Joby’s new LED is designed for video content creators, but could certainly be of use to stills photographers looking for a pocket-sized continuous light.

The light comes in two versions, the Beamo and the Beamo Mini, with the larger of the two weighing just 125g and measuring 51x51x47mm. The smaller option weighs 105g and measures 51x51x39mm, putting out 1000 lumens compared to the larger LED’s 1500 lumens. That’s 470 Lux at one metre and 750 Lux at one metre for the Beamo Mini and Beamo respectively.

A tough aluminium shell makes both LEDs highly durable and they’re waterproof to 30m, too. Thanks to a coldshoe mount, the lights can be mounted on cameras, or attached to each other (up to four) for more power.

The LEDs also come with a diffuser designed to create more appealing skin tones and can be used at any of five brightness levels. A colour temperature of 5100K is consistent across all powers.

Elsewhere on the power front, the larger of the two lights can last up to 100 minutes at 50% power, with wireless charging via a plate on the rear. This plate is replaced by a magnet on the Mini.

Both LEDs can be controlled remotely via Bluetooth and the myJoby app, allowing a greater range of usability options.

The Beamo and Beamo Mini come with RRPs of £79.95 and £59.95 respectively.
