Laowa announces 4mm f/2.8 circular fisheye lens with a huge 210° field of view

The lens – designed for Micro Four Thirds sensor cameras – gives an extreme fisheye perspective allowing for VR photography, shooting virtual tour and spherical panorama

Laowa’s new 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens is an 8mm full-frame equivalent fisheye prime specially designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras. The lens features a huge 210° field of view, meaning the lens can be used for an array of creative photographic techniques such as spherical panorama. For more conventional images, photographers can either ‘de-fish’ the image in post-processing or crop to transform the image into a rectilinear image.

360° panorama can be done using a few as two images as opposed to shooting six or more images with conventional fisheye lenses. This lens is also particularly good for VR photography and shooting virtual tours.

Users can focus as close as 8cm from the sensor and achieve a huge depth-of-field. With the focus ring at infinity focus and the lens at around f/5.6, everything in the lens’ field of view will be in focus.

The lens itself is small and lightweight, measuring in at 45mm long and weighing 135g.

The lens is priced at £249.
