Leica releases versatile new V-Lux 5 camera designed for travellers

The new camera features a compact design, a 24-400mm zoom lens, 4K video and much more

Leica’s new release is designed for photographers on the go, such as travellers, backpackers or safari-goers. Though it’s aimed at amateur photographers, it has a host of impressive features.

The V-Lux 5’s 20-megapixel one-inch sensor and Leica Vario-Elmarit 9.1-146mm (equivalent to 25-400mm in 35mm film format) f/2.8-4 aspherical lens promises strong image performance in a range of settings, including macro, wide-angle, standard or telephoto. Additionally, the camera features ISO 12,800 sensitivity and an integrated optical image stabiliser.

The camera’s newly developed OLED electronic viewfinder and flip touchscreen panel provide the user with a range of shooting options. The touchscreen also features smart functions such as face recognition and burst shooting.

Other notable features include fast autofocus and a high continuous-shooting rate, as well as exposure modes such as Focus Stacking and Post-focusing – particularly useful to amateur photographers.

In addition to its still shooting capabilities, the V-Lux 5 is capable of recording in 4K at 60fps.

When it comes to connectivity, the V-Lux 5 is the first model in its range that can be used with the Leica FOTOS App. To use the app, the user simply connects the camera to their iOS or Android smartphone via Bluetooth, allowing for full operation remotely.

The Leica V-Lux 5 is available for purchase now.
