Introducing the X1D II 50C from Hasselblad
A new camera from Hasselblad is always a special event and X1D II 50C is no exception
The X1D II 50C builds on the successful X1D-50c with a raft of significant improvements over its predecessor.
At the X1D II 50C’s heart is a 43.8×32.9mm CMOS sensor, which is 1.7x larger than the 35mm format. It provides 16-bit capture capable of dealing with a dynamic range of 14EV so files will have details in strong highlights and deep shadows. The camera shoots Raws and full resolution JPEGs.
Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology gives true-to-life colour reproduction, matching what the human eye sees.
The X1D II 50C features a 3.6in 2.36-million-dot touch display, the largest currently available on a medium format camera. The rear display screen (1024x768pixels) gives a great viewing experience.
The camera’s EVF is also enhanced by an OLED with 3.69 million dots and a 0.87x magnification.
Other key features of the X1D II 50C include a faster refresh rate, reduced shutter lag and blackout time between frames, faster continuous shooting range and a faster start-up time (almost half the time of its predecessor).
Hasselblad has also added the XCD 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 standard zoom lens and the Phocus Mobile 2 app.
The XCD 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 is a compact standard, internal focus zoom and features a lens shutter with speeds from 68mins to 1/2000sec, with full flash sync throughout.
“This really is the best lens Hasselblad has developed – its performance is extremely high, competing with our prime lenses. I can even go as far to say that it’s probably the best zoom lens currently available on the market,” says Per Nordlund, Hasselblad lead optical designer.
Phocus Mobile 2 is compatible with the X1D II 50C via USB-C or Wi-Fi and is currently supported by iPad Pro and iPad Air (2019). The new app lets users import, rate and edit Raws on their smart device. In addition, it supports full quality image export, direct camera control and tethered shooting.
