New photo book by Bob Mazzer
Published by Unicorn, the self-titled book is the first retrospective of Bob Mazzer’s 60-year career.
Born in the East End of London, Bob Mazzer has been photographing since the early 1960s, capturing countless iconic images throughout the decades, working regularly for Oz and Time Out magazines and exhibiting at The Photographers’ Gallery, the Serpentine Gallery, the Bibliothèque in Paris and photo festivals in Arles and Cologne.
Will Self, who wrote the foreword for the new book, writes: “The very matter of being, that’s Mazzer’s true preoccupation. His people are playful and sleepy, defiant and vulnerable neither grotesques, nor perfected mannequins – and they inhabit the real being of real places.”
This collection of photographs provides a compact summary of Mazzer’s work since the 1960s: photographs from London, including the famous Underground images, hippie life in Wales, loving life in France, expanding life in the USA and local life in Hastings. The book also includes honest and ever-witty insights from Bob himself.
