Nikon celebrates 120 million Nikkor lenses
Posted on May 30, 2024
Nikon has announced a significant production milestone, with the manufacture of its Nikkor lenses reaching 120 million units as of April 2024
This milestone coincides with the 90th anniversary of Nikon’s first product release, which the company celebrated in 2023.
The Nikkor brand was established in 1932 when Nikon was known as Nippon Kogaku K.K. The first Nikkor product, the Aero-Nikkor aerial lens, was introduced in 1933.
Since then the lenses have seen many advances in technology, with Nikkor F lenses serving Nikon’s SLR and DSLR camera range, right through to the most recent Nikkor Z series lenses, which are designed for Nikon’s latest mirrorless cameras.
The Nikkor Z lens lineup continues to expand. A notable example is the Nikkor Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens, which, with an aperture of f/0.95, makes it the fastest lens in Nikon’s history.
Plus, of course, there is the latest release, the Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR superzoom featured in the image above.
