Nikon Z collection expands

Inspired by heritage models, a new Nikon Z camera and standard prime lens join the mirrorless range
Nikon has introduced two new products — the Nikon Z fc Black Edition camera and NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 (SE) lens — to its mirrorless collection. The Z fc, inspired by the iconic FM2 film camera, is the first of its series to blend a vintage design with contemporary technology. The prime lens does the same, with cutting-edge features housed inside a retro casing.
Following the successful release of the Nikon Z fc silver version, the Black Edition adds six new colour variations to the camera, making 12 in total. Ideal for shooting both stills and movies, the Nikon Z fc boasts image quality as well as adaptability. It pairs with a range of wide-angle and standard lenses, making it suitable for most outings — street, portrait, and travel photography especially.
The Z fc retains Nikon’s retro features; the control dials and circular viewfinder mimic that of a film camera, with a shutter that actually clicks. The high-resolution, Z-series sensor offers sharpness, contrast, and clarity and is equipped for darker environments, with a wide ISO range and low-light AF. Video capture is also possible in 4K/UHD at 30p with the convenience of a vari-angle touchscreen monitor.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 (SE) is a lightweight, compact lens that best serves photographers on the go. With a maximum aperture of f/2, the lens makes the most of available light and creates full-bodied bokeh for pleasing results. Its 40mm focal length — increasing to 60mm on DX-format cameras — captures life as you see it, with a close focusing distance of just 0.29m. According to Nikon, the 40mm auto-focuses silently, rapidly, and with minimal breathing to support video recording. Pair it with a 52mm filter to create varied visual effects.
