Olympus boosts prime numbers

Two fast-aperture additions take Pro lens range to nine optics

Olympus has unveiled two additions to its Pro lens range, both featuring F1.2 maximum apertures. The M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 Pro and 45mm F1.2 Pro lenses join the existing 45mm F1.2 Pro and bring the company’s professional range to a total of nine optics.

As well as featuring super-fast maximum apertures, both lenses are claimed to deliver high quality bokeh, fast autofocusing and have a dust, splash and freezeproof design.

The 17mm lens offers the equivalent of a 34mm lens on a 35mm camera and will be available from March 2018 for £1300. Aimed primarily at landscape and documentary photographers it uses newly-developed ED-DSA (Extra-low Dispersion Dual Super Aspherical) lens elements, which reduce both weight and the number of elements needed.

The 45mm, on the other hand, will be in shops this December for £1200. Offering the equivalent to a 90mm lens on a 35mm camera and, unsurprisingly, is aimed at the portrait photographer who will make good use of the bokeh characteristics.
