Panasonic introduces Lumix S9 full-frame mirrorless camera

Posted on May 22, 2024

Panasonic has announced the Lumix S9, a compact, lightweight full-frame mirrorless camera designed for content creators

The Lumix S9, weighing approximately 403 grams, is the smallest and lightest camera in the Lumix S Series. As you can see below, the features of this camera aim it squarely at the content creator market.

Lumix S9 features

The camera features a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, equivalent to the one used in the Lumix S5II, combined with Panasonic’s latest image processing engine. This powers phase-detection autofocus and image stabilisation, which Panasonic says offer excellent subject tracking and 6.5 stops of benefit.

The camera also includes a Real Time LUT function, accessible via a dedicated button on the camera body. This enables users to apply various colour styles directly in-camera.

Lumix Lab App

The LUT function is complemented by the new Lumix Lab app, which allows users to create unique LUT profiles on their phone and transfer them onto the camera as custom settings.

Video features

The Lumix S9 also introduces the MP4 Lite recording format, optimised for smartphones. This format supports Open Gate recording in 4:2:0 10-bit at 30p/25p, intended to facilitate high-quality video capture. Its compact body and free-angle LCD add further appeal for video creators.

S9 price and availability

The Lumix S9 will be available in four colours: Jet Black, Crimson Red, Dark Olive, and Classical Blue. Units will ship at the end of June 2024 for £1,499 (body only). Find out more at the Panasonic website.
