Phase One launches XT camera system

The new Phase One medium format XT system offers up to 150MP in an amazingly compact size – is this the future of landscape photography?

With its new travel-ready, digitally integrated field camera, Phase One promises to open new frontiers for landscape photography. The XT system – meaning the camera ‘body’ itself – brings together Phase One’s Infinity Platform sensors and Rodenstock’s lenses to form one camera.

However, Phase One argues that this isn’t just any camera, because of its compatible medium format Infinity Platform sensors, the Phase One IQ4 150MP, the IQ4 150MP Achromatic, or the IQ4 100MP Trichromatic, which offer up to 150 megapixels. When you add this to the fact that the system truly is travel-sized, it starts to look like Phase One could be right.

Currently, there are only three Rodenstock lenses that are compatible with the system: the HR Digaron-S 23mm f/5.6, the HR Digaron-W 32mm f/4 and the HR Digaron-W 70mm f/5.6, but Phase One assures us more will be added to the system over time.

Though small in size, the XT IQ4 150MP camera system (including any of the three lenses) comes with a rather large price tag – $56,990 (£45,623) RRP to be exact. Needless to say, this is pro-level kit, but renting is always an option and its innovation is impressive nonetheless.
