Shield yourself from data woes with a portable wonder

Posted on Nov 16, 2023

The Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield has been nominated in the Photography News Awards for best external storage device. Here’s why its data protection and image transfer capabilities make it a winner

Sometimes in life we all need a shield, especially when it comes to preserving our precious photographic memories. Industry leader Samsung has long supplied photographers and videographers with removable media cards of ever-increasing speed and capacity – in fact, it’s been the number-one brand for flash memory since 2003 – and the same is true of its external SSDs. Chief among these is the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield, which has been deservingly nominated for our Photography News Awards 2023.

So, why should it get your vote? Just larger than a business card, the eminently portable Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield comes in a choice of three eye-catching colours: beige, black or blue. These are available with a generous 1TB or 2TB capacity, with the black version offering up to 4TB.

Not only is the portable drive conveniently compact, it’s also fast and tough, allowing photographers to quickly transfer and protect their images, even in the most challenging conditions. It’s IP65-rated for dust and water resistance and withstands drops up to 3m, thanks in part to its durable, synthetic outer shell, which also helps to prevent slips. What’s more, the rubber exterior with Dynamic Thermal Guard controls heat, enabling the drive to maintain a steady performance in all scenarios.

This portable drive transfers huge files almost instantly. It boasts sequential read and write speeds of 1050 and 1000MB/s, respectively, giving users smooth workflow and lag-free editing directly.

Small but mighty

Widespread compatibility is crucial for today’s workflow solutions. The Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield effortlessly connects to the related tech we use day and night, adding its portable convenience to every aspect of our lives. Boasting a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface and dimensions of just 59x88x13mm, it also weighs a manageable 98g – convenient for pockets or camera bags.

Protection doesn’t just come in the form of its outer durability and internal storage capacities, however; the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield allows its users to set a password, get the latest firmware updates and even perform a health check via Samsung Magician software. All firmware as well as physical components are produced in-house by Samsung, meaning the manufacturer can offer end-to-end integration of its products and quality you can trust. A limited three-year warranty further seals the deal.

Given such a sizeable feature list and impressive performance, it won’t come as any surprise that the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Shield has been nominated in this year’s Photography News Awards.
