Sigma expands with 28-70mm
Posted on Feb 26, 2021
Based around the existing 24-70mm f/2.8 lens in the brand’s Art line, the new Sigma 28-70mm standard zoom brings much of the same optical quality to the Contemporary line, with a refined construction that’s the smallest and lightest in its class. This comes at the rather negligible cost of 4mm lost at the short end of the range.
At just over 10cm in length and 470g in weight, the lens offers strong potential for photographers on the go with minimal kit. There’s good focal length coverage and a constant, fairly fast aperture adds further versatility and open the lens up for use over a wide range of subjects. It also offers dust- and splash-proofing around the mount.
High-quality optical performance is powered by a professional construction, with three aspherical, two FLD and two SLD elements, amounting to 16 elements in 12 groups in total. The inclusion of a Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating means flare is also well-controlled, along with distortions and aberrations.
In part, the 28-70mm’s small design is down to a small AF unit that contains just one focusing element. Sigma assures autofocus performance on the whole is responsive and quiet. There’s also a focus mode switch on the barrel of the lens for easy operation.
Available now in L-Mount and Sony E-mount, the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN C is priced at £759.00. For more information, please visit the Sigma website.
