Sigma goes fast and wide

Sigma announces 16mm f/1.4 DC DN C for Sony and MFT mounts

Sigma has announced development of a new fast wide-angle lens for both Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds cameras, the 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. According to Sigma, the new lens is officially the first f/1.4 optic available at that focal length on the E-mount, where it gives a full-frame equivalent or 24mm. On MFT cameras the 16mm focal length provides a view close to that of a full-frame 32mm lens. The wide angle of view provided and the fast maximum aperture should be of great use to low-light and night photographers, as well as those wanting to keep shutter speeds up for reportage work, like photojournalists and street photographers.

Joining Sigma’s recent 30mm f/1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, the lens has a similar style. It’s fairly light and compact, weighing only 405g and being just 92.3mm long. But despite its small footprint it has a splash and dust-resistant build. Price and availability are TBA.
