Sigma Unveils 20mm f/2 DG DN | Contemporary

Posted on Feb 18, 2022

The lens is the latest addition to Sigma’s Contemporary line

The 20mm f/2 DG DN | Contemporary from Sigma is an ultra-compact, wide-aperture prime lens for E-mount and L-mount systems. Sigma claims that the latest lens will be a ‘game changer’ for mirrorless users, offering a winning combo of laser-sharp optics within an ultra-compact, lightweight body. This lens is a great option for those in the market for a lens suited to landscapes, wide-angle portraits, weddings and interiors. Its a good match for astrophotography, too, thanks to its advanced design that suppresses sagittal coma flare.

The fourth I series lens with an f/2 aperture, the 20mm f/2 DG DN | Contemporary joins a 24mm, 35mm and 65mm to create a handy lens set for photographers in need of powerful yet highly portable lenses.

The lens becomes available on 25 February and is priced at £649.99. Comes with magnetic metal lens cap, petal-type lens hood, front cap and rear cap included. For more information, visit Sigma’s website.

The construction of the lens ensures that great clarity is achieved across the entire image, using three high-precision glass-molded aspherical lens elements, one SLD element, and one FLD element. These combine to eliminate a variety of optical aberrations, including sagittal coma flare, which is very difficult to correct in post-production. The incorporation of Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating reduces flare and ghosting, making it a good match for shooting back-lit subjects and towards bright light sources.

The lens’s all-metal construction – a signature feature of all I series lenses – makes it extremely durable, with a slick, stylish finish that’s a joy to work with. Weighing in at just 370g, it’s perfect for carrying around with you on longer shoots.

Key specifications:

  • Lens construction: 11 groups, 13 elements
  • Angle of view: 95°
  • Number of diaphragm blades: 9
  • Minimum aperture: f/22
  • Minimum focusing distance: 22cm
  • Maximum magnification ratio: 1:6.7
  • Filter size: ϕ62mm
  • Dimensions (max diameter x length): ϕ70mm x 72.4mm
  • Weight: 370g

The 20mm f/2 DG DN is available from 25 February, retailing at £649.99. For more information, visit Sigma’s website.
