Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition

The world’s best travel pictures in free show

This year’s winning images from the Travel Photographer of the Year contest plus a showcase selection of pictures from the first 14 years of the competition are on show at the University of Greenwich. The venue is the 10 Stockwell Street building (post code SE10 8BD) and the exhibition is open seven days a week and entrance is free. The show is on until 3 September.

“I have seen the winners on the TPOTY website and we have used a selection of them in the pages of Photography News, but seeing the images in large print form is wonderful,” says Will Cheung, PN’s editor. “There are some truly awesome pictures on show and I would certainly recommend a visit if you get the chance. For me, the added attraction is that the exhibition’s location is also a great photo spot and after enjoying the TPOTY exhibition I spent time with the camera around Greenwich.”

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR DOCKS IN GREENWICH

Free-to-view exhibition of international award-winning images, plus evening talks, photography workshops and Greenwich photowalks

London gains a major new summer photography attraction when the international Travel Photographer of the Year awards (TPOTY) exhibit the latest world-class, prize-winning images at the University of Greenwich’s 10 Stockwell Street building (London SE10 8BD). Open seven days a week, the magnificent, free-to-view exhibition runs from August 4th to September 3rd.

In addition, TPOTY is holding a series of low-cost photography-related events in Greenwich. These include Summer Evening exhibition openings, Summer Talks with renowned photographers including Eamonn McCabe – the presenter of BBC Four’s recent ‘Britain in Focus’ series – photography workshops and photowalks.

The exhibition
From fiery lava flows and birds-eye views of one of the hottest places on Earth, to a magical, snow-swirled New York street scene that echoes an impressionist painting and from the imperious gaze of an elusive, endangered Iberian lynx to wonderfully minimalist images of West Kirby, England, the photographs going on display are glorious.

Photographers from over 120 countries took part in TPOTY 2016, and the award-winning images give a beautiful, fascinating, entertaining and, at times, moving, depiction of life, cultures, wildlife and landscape all over the planet.

The exhibition also features a retrospective showcasing the TPOTY judges and organisers’ favourite images from first 14 years of the awards, while TPOTY sponsor Jack Wills is displaying some of the best shots from its recent Instagram travel photo contest.

No booking or tickets are necessary as the TPOTY exhibition is free to visit.

Each participant also receives a free TPOTY ‘Journey’ book with every workshop booked.

Chris Coe and TPOTY judge Jeremy Hoare will be leading Greenwich Photowalks on Saturday August 12, 19 and 26. Fujifilm is providing its latest equipment for participants to use and the interactive sessions will visit several different locations in highly photogenic Greenwich. Each Photowalk costs £15, and participants also receive a free ‘Journey’ book.

Photo Iconic Workshop and Greenwich Photowalk places can be booked through: https://www.tpoty.com/courses/talks

Fujifilm ‘Touch and Try’ table
On August 12, 19 and 26, TPOTY sponsor Fujifilm will be present in the exhibition space with its X-series and GFX cameras, allowing exhibition visitors to pick up and try a range of different cameras and learn from the experts which is the right camera for them.

In addition, visitors to the exhibition can be amongst the first to buy the new TPOTY book, ‘Journey Nine’ – featuring the award-winning shots in the exhibit – and can vote for their favourite image from those on display, with the chance to win prizes including a Hurtigruten/TPOTY Northern Lights photography trip to Svalbard and a Páramo Halcon Traveller jacket.  They will also be able to buy postcards and greetings cards featuring a selection of the winning images.

The exhibition runs from August 4th to September 3rd and will be open seven days a week.  It should provide the ideal source of inspiration for potential entrants for the 2017 TPOTY awards, which are open for entries until September 25th.
