The Natural History Museum is inviting photographers of all ages, nationalities and abilities to enter their Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition

The Natural History Museum’s global Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is the oldest and most prestigious wildlife photography competition in the world. Now in its fifty-eight year, the competition continues to showcase nature photography and environmental photojournalism by talented photographers from all over the world. This year, to encourage an increase in submissions from regions that are typically underrepresented in the annual competition, entry fees will be waived for fifty countries – you can find the full list here.

You can enter a total of 25 photos into the competition across a wide range of categories, including ‘Animal Portraits’, ‘Plants and Fungi’, ‘Urban Wildlife’ and ‘Oceans – The Bigger Picture’, which is a new category this year.

The annual Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year also runs alongside the main competition and is free to enter for photographers aged 17 and under. Cash prizes have been introduced for each winner of the three categories in the young competition.

The competition will be judged by a panel of acclaimed photographers, researchers, scientists, journalists, and editors. They will be looking for works that shine for their originality, narrative and ethical practice.

Chair of the competition and renowned writer and editor, Rosamund ‘Roz’ Kidman COX OBE, emphasises that by entering the global competition, ‘any story or message that your picture carries will have its impact multiplied. Indeed, there’s never been a more crucial time to highlight the beauty and diversity of the natural world and what’s happening to it.’

Winners of the competition will receive a substantial cash prize, and the best 100 photographs will feature in a limited-edition hardcover book that will also be available on digital platforms and across global media.

The deadline for submissions in Thursday 9 December 2021 at 11.30am (GMT). For more information, please visit this webpage.
