ZY Optics’ Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 gets updates
Posted on Jan 29, 2021
The age of the superfast lens is truly upon us. Whereas this standard of lens was once a rarity, it’s now becoming an ever more viable option. This time, it’s ZY Optics’ Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 that’s undergone a number of updates, despite being an older offering in its original form.
Most notably, the prime is now also available in Leica M Mount, with support for the brand’s Rangefinder Coupling system. The lens’s autofocus capabilities are also compatible with Nikon Z and Sony FE bodies when used with available third-party adapters. In addition to this, both the Megadap MTZ11 and Techart TZM-01/LM-EA7 are supported.
Optical improvements arrive in the shape of a new 11 elements in 8 groups construction, leading to sharper shots even at the widest apertures. Colour fringing and chromatic aberration are also significantly more suppressed, thanks to the addition of an extra-low dispersion element.
To match Leica’s design, the lens has been made available in matte black and silver, and is available to order now. The Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 is quite reasonably priced at $799 excluding VAT (approx. £583).
