Nikon unveils its first Z mount f/2.8 Pro lens

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is expected to go on sale in April 2019

Following on from the release of the Nikon Z 6 and Z 7 last year, Nikon has now announced its first f/2.8 Pro lens for the Z system. The current range of Nikon Z lenses includes the 24-70mm f/4 S, 35mm f/1.8 S, 50mm f/1.8 S, 58mm f/0.95 S Noct and the 14-30mm f/4 S, bringing the total of Z mount lenses up to six.

The optical design of the 24-70mm f/2.8 S has a rounded nine-blade aperture for smoothly graded bokeh, plus 17 elements in 15 groups, with anti-reflective ARNEO and Nano Crystal coatings. The lens also has a customisable control ring that allows you to choose between manual focusing, silent aperture control and exposure compensation. For additional customisation it also features an L-Fn button which can be assigned up to 21 different functions. Other features include an OLED display panel, allowing you to quickly check settings such as aperture, focus distance, focal length and depth-of-field. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.38m and is fully weather sealed.

Tim Carter, Senior Product Manager, Nikon UK, says: “If you can only take one lens with you, the NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/2.8 S offers the ideal combination of compact build and pro performance. Every component of a scene is rendered with lifelike clarity, and the full weather sealing readies this lens for any location.”

Sales start from April 2019 with a recommended retail price of £2199.
