The Punks 2.0 range boasts improved engineering, increased stability, and a bold new appearance
3 Legged Thing have announced that its entry-level Punks range of twist-lock tripods is being replaced with new and improved versions. The new Punks 2.0 – which go by the name of Corey, Travis, Billy and Brian – are highly versatile, with three detachable legs that enable users to turn the tripod into a monopod or boom, and optional Vanza tripod feet for tabletop use. The tripods are ideal for any photographers who want a dynamic tripod suitable for outdoor and indoor environments.
The Punks 2.0 have also had a make-over, with chunkier legs that lower their centre of gravity (offering greater stability) and a new external design featuring rubber pads and knurling, making it easy to tighten the tripod legs securely – even in wet conditions.
The internal design has been improved with anti-rotation Chicken Lips (shims) for greater rigidity in the legs when extended. This is the same design as that found in 3LT’s Pro Range 2.0 and Legend tripods.
The tripod is fully equipped with 3 Legged Thing’s patented Tri-mount plate on top of the centre column, which has also been redesigned, allowing users to attach accessories and keep cables neatly tucked away. An accessory arm can now be added thanks to the addition of an integrated 1/4″-20 thread, suitable for mounting a light or monitor to the tripod. A weight or bag can be added for extra stability using a screw-in D-Ring at the base of the centre column.
Each tripod caters to different needs. Corey 2.0 is an ultra-compact tripod made with aerospace grade magnesium alloy – perfect for travel photography. Brian 2.0 is also great for travel, boasting a pure carbon fibre body and offering a better range for shooting from a height. Travis 2.0 is a beginner-friendly tripod suitable for a wide range of photographic genres, with a magnesium alloy body. For a lighter option, the carbon-fibre Billy 2.0 is a good choice.
Following customer feedback, the control knobs of the AirHed Neo 2.0 are now knurled like those found on 3LT’s Pro Heads, offering better grip and leverage so that the ball can be tightened more securely.
Customers can now purchase a stylish protective bag for storing their Punks 2.0 tripod. The bags are padded with a clamshell design, featuring a detachable carry strap and an external pocket that’s perfect for storing accessories.
The magnesium alloy models (Corey and Travis) retail at £199.99, whilst the carbon-fibre models (Billy and Brian) sell for £289.99 and £299.99, respectively.
