Enter the Earth Photo 2023 competition

Posted on Mar 21, 2023

Are you a photographer or videographer with a compelling story to tell about our planet? Enter Earth Photo 2023 for your chance to win cash prizes, a book deal and mentorship

Earth Photo was established by Forestry England, the Royal Geographical Society and Parker Harris in 2018, and aims to “reveal the narrative behind the pictures, encouraging conversations about peoples, environments and the changing climate”.

The 2023 instalment is open to all ages and features updated awards and collaborators. National and international arts organisations, such as the Sidney Nolan Trust and Lishui International Photography Festival, will expand exposure and opportunities for entrants.

How to enter:

You can submit up to 10 images or videos (between 5 seconds and 15 minutes long) as singles or a series, as long as they were created within the last five years.

Entries can be completed online and are subject to a fee of £15 for each entrant.

Awards:

There are a range of awards on offer to winning entries. These include a £1,000 prize for a future project; £200 and publication in an upcoming book in partnership with Forestry England and Cultureshock; £500 for a project exploring the impact of climate change; and £250 each to a photographer and moving-image maker under the age of 25.

Should your work make the final, it will automatically be featured in the Earth Photo 2023 website gallery at earthphoto.world.

Your entry will also join a shortlist to be considered for the New Scientist’s weekly double-page photo spread, Aperture, along with future Earth Photo exhibitions.

Jury:

Judging will be overseen by a panel of experts in the fields of photography, film, geography, and ecology. Members include distinguished curators, environmentalists, writers and artists, such as: Tim Boddy, Picture Editor at New Scientist; Marissa Roth FRGS, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist; and Azu Nwagbogu, director of African Artists.

Submissions close on 2 May 2023 at 5PM (BST). For more information on the contest and how to enter, head to artopps.co.uk.
