Fujifilm is developing a GFX cinema camera

Posted on Nov 12, 2024

Fujifilm has announced that it is in the development phase of its first filmmaking camera, the Fujifilm GFX Eterna

Named after Fujifilm’s Eterna analogue film series, the camera will include the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor, which is roughly 1.7 times the size of a standard 35mm sensor. It will be powered by the X-Processor 5 image processing engine.

The GFX Eterna has a targeted release of 2025, and will be previewed at InterBEE 2024, a media industry event taking place from 13-15 November 2024.

This new model is designed to be compatible with a planned 32-90mm power zoom GF lens and a G-to-PL mount adapter, making it compatible with the PL mount lenses that are widely used in film production.

This is a clear sign of Fujifilm’s intentions to strengthen its presence in the professional cinema industry. The company says it plans to conduct extensive field tests and expand the GFX system to further support video production workflows.
