Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 launches

Posted on Dec 6, 2020

The new Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD marks a first for the brand, as it is the only high-speed zoom lens for APS-C Sony E-mount mirrorless bodies from Tamron to date. But what a versatile offering, with a 25-105mm focal range in full-frame equivalent and a constant aperture of f/2.8 throughout.

Despite its range and speed, the 17-70mm remains fairly compact at 119.3mm in length and 525g in weight. Elsewhere on the construction, the lens offers further versatility with moisture-resistance.

Tamron assures strong optical performance, boasting a construction of 16 elements in 12 groups, with two glass molded aspherical lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element. Other key features include a close focusing distance of 19cm and 39cm at the 17mm and 70mm ends respectively, Tamron’s proprietary Vibration Compensation mechanism, and support for Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF features.

The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is backed by a five-year warranty and is now available for pre-order at the official Tamron dealers in UK and Ireland. Shipments will start from mid-January 2021. The lens carries an RRP of £779.99 in the UK and €879.99 in Ireland.
